The holidays aren’t always a time of abundance for everyone, so in the spirit of giving, Nebraska’s pork producers donated approximately 2,000 pounds of boneless hams to 14 different organizations in Lincoln and Omaha that serve people in need.

NPPA President Darin Uhlir was excited to be part of the effort. “While Nebraska’s pork industry is about feeding Nebraskans and the world,” he said, “not everyone is able to purchase the high quality, abundant products we produce. We are thrilled to provide these hams to these fine organizations that do so much to fight hunger, especially during this time of year.”

The effort was part of the National Pork Board’s annual #Hams Across America campaign that encourages farmers and those involved in the pork industry to show appreciation for friends, family, neighbors and community through the gift of ham and other pork products.

The hams were purchased and distributed at Super Saver/Fallbrook in Lincoln and Sam’s Club in Omaha. Representatives from each organization receiving the hams stopped by to pick up their donations on Friday, December 14. The National Pork Board’s marketing trailer was on hand, as well as members and staff of the Nebraska Pork Producers Association.

Omaha organizations receiving the donations included: Siena Francis House, Holy Family, Mount Sinai Outreach, MCC Outreach, Freeway Ministries, Open Door Mission, Salvation Army North Kare Kitchen, and Cross Roads Connection. Lincoln locations include the People’s City Mission, Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach, The Gathering Place, Friendship Home, The Malone Center and Fresh Start.

“It’s important that we acknowledge the Iowa Pork Producers Association during this year’s campaign,” said the NPPA’s Uhlir. “They matched our investment in this program and enabled us to add an additional four organizations that will be receiving donations this year. We greatly appreciate their support.”
